I knew this would be chaos, as it was the first one of the year and we had 43 athletes lifting. I did not get the mail to me that moved weigh-in up an hour, but since I always arrive early, I did get there in time. But behind quite a queue of semi-naked men — okay, not a real hardship. 🙂
But we only had one ladies bar for the the first plateau of nine lifters (8 women, one male cadet who is allowed to use our bar due to age/size.) And that was the one on the platform, along with the only set of large plastic discs. Let’s just say we found creative solutions to warm up, including lowering our start numbers.
I got 4 out of six bars, which was about 5 kg less than I wanted to do, but I still qualified for the World Masters by quite a good margin. And set national records, as I am 50 this year and we have no records for this age group in Belgium.
Photos below. The team photo was the group in black, then the first plateau of ladies and cadet, then some lifting shots of me and some team mates, as well as a short video of my clean and jerk. Better lifting next month, with better equipment and a shorter drive. It was more than 100km each way today.
